The performing arts have a strong presence at Bromsgrove, housed in a performing arts complex that includes a three-hundred-seat theatre and the historic Routh Concert Hall, transformed for musical performance and prized for its acoustics. Music, drama, and musical theatre are all keenly pursued, from full-scale productions to smaller House performances in which every pupil can take part. Sport is played to a high level across a wide range of games, with the fixture against King Edward's School, Birmingham, first played in 1875, thought to be the oldest continuously held school rugby match in England. Admissions Essentials
Pupils join Bromsgrove's Senior School at two main points, at 13+, into Year 9, and at 16+, into the Sixth Form, with some also joining at other points where places allow. Entry at 13+ is by the school's own entrance examination and interview, with the Common Entrance examination also accepted, taken alongside a report from the pupil's current school, and most pupils then spend three years preparing for GCSE. The school is deliberately configured so that many pupils join at sixteen, with Sixth Form entry assessed through interview, a confidential reference, and GCSE results, including a one-year GCSE route for some pupils joining from overseas. At 13+ and 16+ entry, scholarships are available across academic, music, art, drama, and sport.
